Cialis
As men age, their sex drive may diminish, but it doesn't go away completely. It may surprise many people to know that plenty of men over the age of 60 still enjoy sex on a regular basis.
However, aging men have other issues that create sexual dysfunction problems, such as erectile dysfunction. While only about 15-18% of men suffer from erectile dysfunction, about 30% of all men in all age groups suffer from premature ejaculation, or premature ejaculation. That's almost double the number of men who have trouble getting an erection! In addition, premature ejaculation affects all men the same whether you are 18 or 78 years old.
While men with erectile dysfunction problems have approved treatments such as Cialis, there is not an FDA approved treatment for premature ejaculation. But can drugs such as Cialis be used to treat premature ejaculation?
What is Cialis?
Cialis is the brand name for the drug compound tadalafil. Tadalafil is a type of PDE-5 inhibitor used to promote blood flow. More specifically, the compound in Cialis helps to dilate the blood vessels in the penis and free vessels from smooth muscle to blood flow is easier. Thus, when a man becomes aroused, blood flow to the penis is facilitated and erection is more easily achieved. Cialis is an FDA-approved drug specifically approved to treat erectile dysfunction.
Can Cialis Help Men with Premature Ejaculation?
Men who suffer from premature ejaculation have no single cure or treatment. However, there are a number and variety of treatment options that may work. Treatments include herbal and natural supplements, topical anesthetic creams applied to the penis before sex, professional therapy and counseling, and self-help exercises and sex techniques. However, doctors also use prescription options to treat premature ejaculation, even though that is not their approved intention.
More often, doctors will prescribe antidepressants for their patients with premature ejaculation. One of the side effects of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, is that it causes a delayed orgasm. This seems logical as a treatment. However, some men find that the other side effects of SSRIs are unwanted, and some may discover that erection is not even possible with an SSRI.
Cialis may be used by itself or in conjunction with an antidepressant in order to help a man get an erection and delay ejaculation. It is up to the doctor and the patient whether this treatment is a viable option.
Possible Side Effects of Cialis
While the benefits of Cialis are obvious and pleasurable, side effects may be unwanted and discouraging. They may include:
There are other severe yet rare side effects that may be caused by Cialis. It is best to talk with your doctor about your premature ejaculation condition, and whether Cialis may be a viable treatment for you.
What Is Premature Ejaculation?
Most men who are sexually active enjoy a satisfactory experience between both partners. However, for many couples, the sexual act is cut short due to the early completion by the male partner before.
